CAPTION ONLY: RUMBLING GIANT THREATENS ISLANDERS

The British warship HMS Southampton sails past the Caribbean island of Montserrat earlier this month. More than half of Montserrat's residents have been evacuated from their homes because of eruptions from the Soufriere Hills volcano in the southeast, and the government has made plans to move them to nearby islands if needed. Monday's evacuation order covered the 3,000 people living in Plymouth, the capital, as well as 2,000 people in villages.
