The City Council on Tuesday considered a proposed ordinance that would impose a $100 administrative fee on property owners who neglect minimum standard upkeep of their property. The proposed fee would cover the city's cost of cutting overgrown weeds and mailing certified letters to offending property owners.
But the proposal from City Attorney Craig Hall ran into a roadblock when Councilmen Fred Jones and Gary Ferrero requested more information on the current code. Councilman Leon Robertson's concern was setting a flat ad-ministrative fee, then having to review it constantly. Robertson proposed the new ordinance work on a percentage basis, with property owners picking up a percentage of the city contractor's total work cost. The item was sent back to committee for further study.
