Being in charge of the jail looked so simple when Festus Haggin was doing the job on "Gunsmoke." But no longer:
- Three inmates recently sued the Mini-Cassia Jail in Idaho alleging cruel and unusual punishment after jailers refused to give them a midnight snack.- After a suspected killer fell to his death trying to escape the Camden, N.J., jail, his family filed suit. They say that Camden failed to keep a "reasonably safe" facility.
If Festus were plying the turnkey trade today, his best friend would probably be a lawyer rather than Doc Adams.
