WALKING FOR HEALTH'S SAKE

To reduce your chances of a stroke, the University of California at Berkeley's Wellness Letter recommends walking.

The newsletter cited a Yale University study of more than 9,000 male, white veterans between 50 and 60 years old. The study found that the least active men were almost seven times more likely to suffer a stroke than those whose lifestyles were moderately or very active. A daily walk of one mile was the minimum exercise found effective in reducing stroke risk.
