CONCRETE SLAB CRUSHES TRENCH DIGGER IN WEST S.L.

A 43-year-old man digging a trench at a construction site in West Salt Lake was crushed Thursday morning by a 10-ton concrete slab.

The man, whose name has not been released, was operating a large tractor at a new warehouse for Sauder Woodworking at 500 N. 5000 West. The warehouse's walls are large pre-poured concrete slabs, one of which broke loose on the east side of the structure and fell on top of the tractor, smashing the cab.Firefighters arrived about 10:30 a.m. and used cutting equipment to extricate the victim. He was airlifted to LDS Hospital, where he was in extremely critical condition.
