Roberto Bahler, an Argentine hurler, came up with a solid performance Wednesday night at the Cottonwood Complex in the North American Fastpitch Association Triple A Tournament.
Bahler pitched a six-hitter, fanning eight and walking only one, leading Larry H. Miller Chevrolet to a shutout victory, 3-0, over the Oshawa Heat of Oshawa, Ontario.Miller Chevrolet took advantage of two Oshawa errors in the fourth inning, which put two runners on base. Mark Kleven's single scored both runners.
The Advocates of Mesa, Ariz., last year's NAFA Triple A champions, lost their opener to Meederinck, Lyndon, Wash., 6-0, at the Cottonwood Complex (4400 S. 1300 East) Wednesday night.
Meederinck pitcher Rod Bierlink hurled a four-hit shutout against the defending champions. The Advocates are still alive, however, in the double elimination tourney.
The Salt Lake City Miners were edged in their opener, 3-2, at the hands of the Pueblo, Colo., Bandits. Bandit pitcher Kyle Kouka had a six-hitter, with Miners Shad Alvey and Chad Miller having two hits apiece.
In the NAFA's Double A action, Utah teams split their four games. Salt Lake City's International Hydraulics and the Pleasant Grove Wallbangers won. Hydraulics defeated Captain Dan's of Lakewood, Calif., 3-0; the Wallbangers edged the Crown Rainiers, Everett, Wash., 5-1.
Rocky Mountain Welding of Pleasant Grove lost to Oroville, Calif., 4-3, while Page 23 was dumped by Bullet Transportation, Lomita, Calif., 20-12.
