CHANGE OF PLEA IS SET IN TROOPER'S DEATH

A Tuesday change-of-plea hearing is scheduled for David R. Buck, who previously pleaded not guilty in the highway death of Utah Highway Patrol trooper Randy Ingram.

Ingram had made a traffic stop on I-15 near Nephi about 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 and was sitting in his patrol car when the truck Buck was driving drifted into the emergency lane and hit Ingram's car, killing the officer.Buck gave officers no explanation why his truck drifted from its travel lane and hit the patrol car. He pleaded not guilty to one count of negligent homicide, a class A misdemeanor, and one count of improper log keeping, a class C misdemeanor.

Legal preparations and a change of elected county attorneys in Juab County have delayed court proceedings since Buck entered his original plea Oct. 18.

Paul Felt, Buck's lawyer, said he is still discussing a plea agreement with Juab County prosecutors. Felt said the hearing will "most likely take care of the whole matter."
