Getting buried in Nephi will cost more now that the City Council has increase fees for cemetery services.
"Current fees raise approximately 20 percent of the annual cemetery operating and maintenance costs," said Randy McKnight, city administrator. The fee increase was necessitated by increased costs in both labor and materials, said Mayor Robert Steele. The prices apply to both Vine Bluff and City Cemetery.
One burial space will now cost $150 for residents and $300 for non-residents. Opening and closing a grave will cost $150.
Perpetual care will cost residents of Nephi $100 and non-residents $200. Capital improvement fees are $100 for residents and $200 for non-residents. An extra $100 will be charged for weekend, holiday or after-hours internment.
"In the past," said McKnight, "we sold cemetery plots for $150 per individual." That price remains unchanged for Nephi residents.
