Starting quarterback Bryan Martin completed 13 of 21 passes for 158 yards and a 30-yard touchdown pass to Norvel Young as Weber State completed its fall camp with a controlled scrimmage Thursday night.
Martin's backup, junior Roger Cook, was 8-for-12 for 85 yards. He threw a 15-yard TD pass to tight end Lance Mimnaugh. Mimnaugh had four catches for 59 yards to lead all receivers.Coach Dave Arslanian's crew now moves to one-a-day workouts beginning today in preparation for the season opener next Thursday at Western Michigan University.
"Tonight's scrimmage was much better than our one last Saturday night," Arslanian said. "We certainly looked a little more crisp on offense. Most importantly, we came out of the scrimmage and fall camp without a major injury."
Defensively, Tom Smith led the way with three quarterback sacks for a minus-18 yards. Freshman linebacker Frank Slaugh returned an interception 98 yards for score.
Arslanian said he felt good about the kicking game, especially placekicker Scott Shield. Shield connected on a 52-yard field goal and had makes from 35 and 32 yards.
