Dave Berg, the veteran Utah Department of Transportation engineer recently named to head up the reconstruction of I-15 in Salt Lake County, this week announced his resignation from UDOT.
A memo circulated to UDOT employees said Berg would stay on until a replacement is found. It did not state why Berg is leaving. The project, UDOT's biggest-ever undertaking, will cost $1 billion and take from five to seven years to finish. Berg was appointed only this summer to oversee the work, which has been in the planning stages for some time and is supposed to begin in earnest by 1997.
I-15's reconstruction will transform the state's busiest highway from six lanes to 10 lanes and rebuild every interchange between downtown Salt Lake City and Sandy.
