A Hawaii woman is the new Mrs. United States, who was crowned in Las Vegas last week, while a Utah woman was named first runner-up.

Pam Whiting, who was Mrs. Hawaii, will receive $3,000 and some sponsorship gifts. She also will make public appearances for nonprofit organizations, said pageant spokesman Richard Erwin.Janae Dibble of Mantua, Box Elder County, was first runner-up; Sherry Strother of Yukon, Okla., was second runner-up; Linda Watts of Yakima, Wash., was third runner-up; and Janice Elaine Mobley of Buffalo, N.Y., was fourth runner-up.

The all-week eventended Thursday and included contestants from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
