If its "bean" too long since you've had a good bowl o' red . . . Wednesday, Sept. 13, is your time to dine at the Ninth Annual Great Salt Lake Chili Affair.
And we don't mean chilly. The public is invited to join honorary co-chairs of the event, Mayor Deedee Corradini and Jon M. Huntsman Jr. for an evening of gourmet chili, fiesta music, a boutique and silent auction.
The Chili Affair is the largest annual fund raiser for Travelers Aid Society, operator for the Salt Lake Community Shelter and Resource Center. Proceeds from the event provide opportunities for homeless men, women and children to take steps out of homelessness and make the transition to independent living.
A social hour and silent auction will start proceedings at 5:30 p.m. followed by local chefs (including Red Rock Brewing, Squatters, El Chile Verde, Log Haven, Cromptons, and Park Ivy Cafe, as well as chefs from First Security Bank and Catholic Community Services) serving their gourmet chilis at 7 p.m.
Chili judging by local celebrities will begin at 6:30 p.m., with awards being presented at 8:30 p.m.
Tickets are available to the public for $35 per person or $300 for a table of eight and can be purchased at the door or by calling Travelers Aid Society at 355-1433.
