One person was seriously injured and a Salt Lake house damaged after two unrelated drive-by shootings Monday.
A 19-year-old man, whose name and address were not released pending notification of family, was walking with a group near a gas station/convenience store on the northwest corner of 900 S. West Temple about 10:15 p.m. A white, full-size pickup truck pulled up and the occupants fired some shots, said Salt Lake police Lt. Dennis Tueller. The man, who was struck in the neck and back, was taken to LDS Hospital in serious condition, Tueller said. The group scattered when the shots were fired.
Witnesses in the store said they came out after the incident and heard the man pleading for help, said Tueller. Apparently, police were nearby on a gang-fight call when the shots rang out, leading police to believe the incidents could be gang related.
Earlier Monday, another drive-by shooting damaged the face of a Salt Lake house. No one was injured.
About 3:30 a.m., a house near 990 W. McFarland (835 North) was damaged by at least three bullets, a Salt Lake police report said. Neighbors witnessed a maroon low-rider heading eastbound after the shots.
