Salt Lake police are investigating the stabbing of a man early Thursday as a homicide.
The man, 48, died in the drive-up lane of a local bank after suffering multiple wounds to his back, said Lt. Phil Kirk. His name was not released, pending notification of next of kin.Kirk said a witness saw two men fighting just after midnight at 217 S. Edison (140 East). The younger of the two men was on top of another man apparently "pounding on his back," Kirk said.
Police responded a few minutes later and found that the victim had dragged himself about 100 feet north, beneath the drive-up window of Guardian State Bank. He died at the scene from the stab wounds.
"We're not sure what the motive was, although it doesn't appear to be gang-related," Kirk said.
