ELDER BALLARD UNDERGOES A QUADRUPLE BYPASS

Elder M. Russell Ballard of the LDS Quorum of the Twelve was in serious but stable condition Thursday morning after undergoing quadruple-bypass surgery Tuesday evening at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Gerry Pond of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' public affairs department quoted a hospital official as saying that Elder Ballard, 66, was still in intensive care Thursday morning but was expected to be moved to a regular room later in the day.Elder Ballard, who has been a member of the Twelve since 1985, spoke at a program preceding the Ensign Peak Family Hike on July 26.
