Buzz's magic number still frozen at 1
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Pete Janicki scattered five hits over 7 innings Tuesday night to help the Vancouver Canadians blank the Salt Lake Buzz 2-0 in Pacific Coast League baseball.
It was the second consecutive night the first-half champion Canadians spoiled Salt Lake City's bid to win the second-half crown in the Northern Division.
The Buzz's magic number remains at one.
Janicki walked two and struck out four for his first PCL win since being assigned to Vancouver from the Class A California League on July 18.
Chris Turner and Jovino Carvajal hit RBI singles in the second and fifth innings. They were allowed by Buzz right-hander LaTroy Hawkins, 8-7, who tossed a seven-hitter.
Left-hander Mark Holzemer got the last three outs for his second save.
