Canadians club Buzz

VANCOUVER - Designated hitter Todd Greene led the Canadians as Vancouver unleashed a 20-hit attack to beat the Salt Lake City Buzz 14-5 in Pacific Coast League action Wednesday.

The Buzz remain a game from clinching the PCL's Northern Division second-half crown.

Greene went three for four at the plate with six RBIs. He made a home run in the seventh inning to score three runs, his 14th homer in league play.

Combined with 24 homers at Midland of the Texas League, Greene is the first minor leaguer to hit 40 home runs since Danny Tartabull's 43 with Calgary in 1985.

The win was Vancouver's seventh in a row.

Marc Barcelo started for Salt Lake and suffered his sixth consecutive loss.

Rider sent to jail

Rider violated terms of his probation by failing to stay in touch with his probation officer. Rider reported to the county's Adult Detention Center and will remain until 7 a.m. Saturday.
