TITLE DATES, SITES SET FOR LEAGUE EVENTS

Dates and sites for the Western Athletic Conference championships in nine sports were announced Thursday.

The 1995-96 season marks the final year of 10-team competition for the WAC men's teams and eight-team competition for the women, since the league expands to 16 members for the 1996-97 season.The first 1995-96 championship contested this fall will be men's and women's cross country, to be held Oct. 28 at Balboa Park in San Diego. It will be followed by the inaugural WAC women's soccer championship tournament, Nov. 2-4 at Choc Sportsman Field in San Diego.

The winter championships begin with men's and women's swimming and diving, Feb. 21-24 at the Palo Alto College Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas. The men's and women's indoor track and field championship is slated for Feb. 23-24 at the Air Force Academy.

The 1996 First Security Bank WAC men's and women's basketball tournaments will be held March 6-9 at The Pit in Albuquerque. The wrestling championship will be contested March 9 at Fresno State's North Gym.

The spring schedule finds the tennis championships at the Fresno State Tennis Courts. The men will compete April 17-20, while the women will go April 25-27.

The University of Wyoming will hold the men's golf tournament May 2-4 at the Cheyenne Country Club, while the men's and women's outdoor track and field championship will be contested May 15-18 at the Great Friends of UNM Track Stadium in Albuquerque.

The final WAC championship of 1996, the baseball playoff, is set for May 16-18 at the site of the eastern division champion.
