A woman who tried to stop a fight between her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend was stabbed in the back Thursday afternoon but escaped serious injury.
Mary J. Pomeroy, 47, was listed in satisfactory condition Friday morning at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.Provo Police Capt. George Pierpont said the boyfriend went to Pomeroy's home, 2140 N. 1000 West, at about 3:30 p.m. to confront her daughter. The two began fighting and when Pomeroy stepped in to stop the altercation, the man allegedly picked up a small kitchen knife and stabbed her in the back.
When the daughter attempted to call police, the man then cut the telephone cords. The daughter ran to a neighbor's home and called police. When police arrived the man fled, but officers apprehended him after a short chase.
Police booked Douglas H. Stout, 23, Orem, into the Utah County Jail on investigation of attempted criminal homicide, simple assault and resisting arrest.
