Prices for oil futures and other fuels finished mixed on Friday with little news to drive the commodities.
Light sweet crude oil for September delivery finished 1 cent per barrel lower at $17.71 after holding within a 19-cent range during the day.Prices for unleaded gasoline contracts finished mixed. The September contract rose 0.04 cent per gallon to 53.97 cents, but later delivery months fell. September home heating oil prices finished 0.06 cent per gallon lower at 49.18 cents. Contracts for delivery later in the year fell more.
Natural gas futures rose 2.4 cents per 1,000 cubic feet to $1.456 for September delivery. Prices settled into a quiet range after Hurricane Erin failed to cause damage to gas rigs and platforms that were shut as a precaution came back on line.
