STORE ROBBERY FOILED BY CLERK WHO `COULDN'T UNDERSTAND'

A wise clerk at a McFrugal's discount store in Salt Lake City foiled a robbery attempt this week by a drunk man who said he had a bomb.

The man entered the store, 656 E. 200 South, about 10 p.m. Tuesday and pointed to a device on his belt, saying, "You know what I want." The device tucked between his belt and pants was apparently a battery with wires attached to it.The man said "this will go off if you don't give me the money," according to a police report. But the clerk kept repeating that she couldn't understand the man, that his speech was too slurred.

"The suspect finally got tired of the game and walked out of the store," the report stated.
