Some people who only know Marian McPartland from the radio think she's black.
That's OK with her.The jazz legend recently went to Washington and wrote letters to protest threatened cuts in funding for "Piano Jazz," her award-winning show on National Public Radio.
Her efforts paid off.
"The cuts ended up not as bad as we thought they'd be and `Piano Jazz' is pretty secure," McPartland told Parade magazine from New York.
Despite a career spanning more than five decades, McPartland still meets fans of the show who thought she was black.
"I say `thank you,"' she says.
