A late January home battle with in-state rival Weber State and road contests at Arizona State of the PAC-10 and Colorado of the Big-8 highlight the 1995-96 Southern Utah University men's basketball schedule.
Bill Evans' Thunderbirds will host Ron Abegglen's Weber State squad Jan. 30 in the Centrum in what will be a break from league action for both teams. WSU defeated SUU 94-85 last season in Ogden.Four new Thunderbird starters will join incumbent guard Reggie Ingram in what looks to be a Division I baptism of fire for the newcomers. SUU opens with five of its first seven games on the road, including stops at ASU and Gonzaga, both of which were NCAA Tournament participants last spring.
"I'm excited about our schedule. We're going to see the top teams from several well respected conferences. It could be a little rough at the outset with eight or nine new guys, but it's a schedule that will give our guys the kind of experience early that usually pays off down the stretch," said Evans.
In addition to facing Weber State, SUU will face four other Big Sky Conference opponents - Joe Cravens' Idaho Vandals and Idaho State at home and Boise State and Montana State on the road.
