Firefighters around Utah got the upper hand over the weekend on a number of fires burning since Wednesday. But weather conditions prompted another warning Monday.
Firefighters on Sunday controlled the 1,600-acre Locomotive fire in Box Elder County just south of Snowville. The fire had burned in grass and brush since Friday evening.Hot winds, however, kept fire crews from achieving a Saturday containment on the 400-acre Microwave fire 12 miles west of St. George. A 20-member crew was still working that fire Monday.
Salt Lake Interagency Fire Center spokeswoman Vi Hillman said dry lightning is expected in many parts of the state Monday, which could easily start more fires. Lightning was blamed for almost a dozen fires that started Wednesday and Thursday.
