CAPTION ONLY: PROCESSION MARKS ANNIVERSARY OF NAGASAKI BOMBING

Members of a children's choir join a candlelight procession at the Urakami Cathedral in Nagasaki, Japan, to commemorate the anniversary Wednesday of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. At the moment exactly 50 years after the blast, parishioners at the memorial Mass bowed their heads in prayer. The cathedral, at the explosion's epicenter, was completely destroyed and later rebuilt. The blast left about 70,000 people dead, among them two-thirds of the church's 14,000 members. Two priests and 24 parishioners were inside the church when the bomb was dropped. They died instantly. See story on Page A4.
