Harold W. Ritchey, an Ogden man who was a pathfinder in the space industry, received the first Utah Space Pioneer Award Thursday at Utah State University.

Ritchey, former chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Thiokol Corp., was honored during SpaceTalk '95, the fourth annual conference on space policy.Ritchey, now retired, guided programs at Thiokol during the 1950s, '60s and '70s. He directed development of the Falcon missile engine, the Polaris test vehicle and the Minuteman missile first stage.
