David Smith Harrison's intaglio prints from 1982-94 are on exhibit at the Loge Gallery in the Pioneer Memorial Theatre through Saturday, Sept. 30. Smith-Harrison's approach to intaglio printmaking commands a substantial amount of time and labor. He uses a mid-15th century technique to detail images of trees and architectural forms, which he etches meticulously in copper plates. He then hand-prints the etchings onto fine papers. This process of drawing and etching is repeated until thousands of marks and lines compose a final image.
- The Utah Watercolor Society presents their "Open Studio Tour" on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. The tour is open to the public, and ticket prices are $10, available at: Apple Yard Art, A Woman's Place Bookstore, Bullock Frame Co., Dolores Chase Fine Art, Frames Inc., Gallery 56, Golden Braid Books, Petersen Art School, Phillips Gallery, Provo Art & Frame and Reuel's Art & Frame locations. A purpose of the event is to raise funds for the "Western Federation of Watercolor Societies Annual Show" which will be hosted by the Utah Watercolor Society in Salt Lake City in 2001. Ed Dolinger, Andrew Glantz, Katherine Mink, Mary Lou Romney and Sharlene and Larry Christensen are just some of the many artists participating in the studio tour.- The Utah Arts Council announces applications for the next phase of Individual Artist Grants are now being accepted from Utah artists of all disciplines. The deadline for submission is Oct. 1.
