A woman fighting her ex-husband over custody of the family cat chose to spend two days in jail rather than give up her tabby.

Terri Hudson battled with Jeff Sucec over the fate of the cat, Seymour, since the couple began divorce proceedings in 1993. The couple also has a 3-year-old son, who is in Sucec's custody. After the split, Sucec and their son lived with the cat. But Hudson took Seymour back in December 1993, according to Jeffrey Leving, Sucec's attorney.

On Thursday, DuPage County Judge Kenneth Abraham ordered Hudson to return the cat to Sucec or be found in contempt of court.

Hudson refused to budge and went to jail. She will be freed even if she does not hand over the cat, according to the order.

Leving said Hudson was ignoring how much the cat means to her son.

"This boy has an attachment to the cat," Leving said. "The boy has already gone through the trauma of a broken family. He needs the cat for emotional support."
