Quarterback Josh Wallwork, the NCAA total offense leader, produced 301 yards and four touchdowns in just over two quarters Saturday to lead Wyoming to a 45-25 victory Saturday over Oklahoma State in Laramie.
Wallwork, who was 18-of-25 passing, left early in the third quarter with bruised ribs. But by then Wyoming (2-1) had bruised the secondary of Oklahoma State (1-3) for 35 points. Wallwork's only mistake came on the first drive, when he slipped on the 1-yard line on a fourth-and-goal run.Wyoming scored on its next five possessions. The most common scoring method was Wallwork to Marcus Harris, with touchdown strikes of 21, 26 and 40 yards. Harris, last year's leader in receiving yardage, added a fourth touchdown catch of 19 yards on a trick play from running back Len Sexton.
Running back Jermaine McDowell caught Wyoming's fifth first-half score, a 1-yard pass from Wallwork. McDowell added a 9-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.
All three of Oklahoma State's touchdowns came on short second-half runs by quarterback Tone Jones, who also completed 12 of 31 passes for a season-high 169 yards.
Oklahoma State's ninth-ranked running offense generated only 18 yards on 20 carries in the first half.
Wyoming's Sexton led all rushers with 147 yards on 21 carries. Harris led receivers with 161 yards on eight catches.
The win marked the first time in seven tries that the Wyoming Cowboys had defeated the Cowboys of Oklahoma State.
Northwestern 30, Air Force 6
At Evanston, Ill., Darnell Autry rushed for 190 yards - 53 more than Air Force, the nation's No. 3 rushing team entering the game - as Northwestern rebounded from a devastating loss to beat the Falcons.
Last week, Northwestern (2-1) blew a 21-point, fourth-quarter lead in losing to Miami of Ohio and falling out of the national rankings. But the Wildcats looked even better against Air Force (2-2) than they had in a season-opening upset at Notre Dame.
Air Force's only points came on field goals of 26 and 39 yards by Randy Roberts. The Wildcats hadn't kept an opponent out of the end zone since beating Princeton 37-0 in 1986.
Historically on the losing end of lopsided scores, Northwestern scored its most decisive victory since beating Wake Forest by 27 points in 1991.
