QUIT PUTTING ISLANDS ON ROADWAYS

SHARE QUIT PUTTING ISLANDS ON ROADWAYS

I have something to say to those people in UDOT who design our new roadways. Stop wasting highway space with these stupid islands and turn zones. Take south State Street at South Towne Center. An island over one mile long by 30 feet wide is making the road a parking lot. The island made the stop lights a necessity. I say painted turn lanes would do the job and would cost less. Case in point: 9000 South below 1300 West. The traffic (heavier) negotiates the turns and crossings easily.

And speaking of 9000 South, why in the world would they put an island in the middle of the uphill lanes on that road. Don't they realize the island will cause a permanent snow drift there all winter long?We need more wider roads with more lanes, not islands. Islands are a waste of Utah roads from beginning to end. It has taken 30 years to get rid of most of the islands on State Street. Now they are back and are worse.
