Les Stewart, a longtime Utah AIDS Foundation board member and activist, has died from complications from the disease.

Stewart, 50, lived with the disease for 15 years until his death last Friday."He was a compelling presenter who influenced a lot of people," said Barbara Shaw, executive director of the Salt Lake City-based foundation.

Stewart, born and raised in Springville, made himself well-known to legislators and community leaders through numerous letters. He was often in the forefront of calls for government support of AIDS education.
