The Utah Junior Golf Association honored eight players of the year and two scholarship recipients at the 14th annual UJGA Awards Banquet Friday at the Oakridge Country Club.
PGA Tour regular Mike Reid, UJGA President Lynn Summerhays and UJGA executive director Jeff Thurman honored the 1996 players of the year in each age division.A special Director's Award was also presented to Boyd Summerhays of Farmington, the Utah 5A high school state medalist from Davis who is wrapping up one of the most fruitful local, regional and national careers in Utah junior golf history. Summerhays has signed to play collegiately at Oklahoma State.
The eight honorees were:
Girls 15-17: Sumner Fenstermaker; Boys 15-17: Brock Padilla; Girls 13-14: Annie Thurman; Girls 11-12: Megan Thurman; Boys 11-12: Casey Fowles; Boys' 13-14: Daniel Summerhays; Girls 10 and under: Stephi Graves; Boys 10 and under: Stuart Gold.
Sally Bingham of Spanish Fork joined Moab's Carey Shinkle as recipients of the Cleo Branca Sportsmanship Scholarship, which is awarded annually to one young man and one young woman in the 15-17 age category who best exemplify the qualities of sportsmanship and good conduct.
