Craig Young rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns Saturday to lead Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo to a 45-34 victory over Southern Utah.
Mike Allshouse added 79 rushing yards and also scored twice for the Mustangs (3-4), and Ryan Thomas had 103 yards on five receptions.The Cal Poly victory overshadowed a 220-yard, four-touchdown rushing performance by Southern Utah's Brook Madsen. Madsen, who carried 35 times, scored twice on 1-yard runs, and also on runs of 4 and 46 yards in the losing effort by the Thunderbirds (4-4).
Young's TDs came on runs of 12 and 18 yards, and Allshouse scored on runs of 29 and 10 yards.
The Mustangs broke away from a 21-21 on Young's 18-yard scoring run 4:35 into the third quarter and were in front the rest of the way.
Southern Utah finished the day with 331 rushing yards, but only 29 passing yards while the Mustangs were able to generate 593 yards of total offense, 310 through the air and 283 on the ground.
