A group of black-footed penguins take a look at their surroundings in the "Penguin Cove" exhibit, which opened Thursday at Hogle Zoo. The exhibit is in a renovated area that housed harbor seals and sea lions for more than 30 years. The sea lion exhibit was closed when required renovations and maintenance of the exhibit became too costly to meet standards for marine mammals, officials said. A new filtration system would have cost more than $500,000. Renovating the exhibit to accommodate penguins, which were moved from an exhibit outside the Small Animals Building, cost about $40,000.
