GOP congressional candidates Chris Cannon and Merrill Cook have poured their own money into their close U.S. House races the past two weeks, the latest Federal Election Commission reports show.

Cannon has loaned his campaign $370,000 in the past two weeks, for a total personal spending of $1.17 million. Cook has given his campaign $106,500 the past two weeks, for a total of $667,547 he's given himself in the race.Cannon is trying to unseat three-term Democratic Rep. Bill Orton in the 3rd Congressional District. Cook seeks to win the open 2nd Congressional District seat. His opponent is Democrat Ross Anderson.

Cannon and Cook have been running a number of TV ads the past several weeks. The latest Deseret News/KSL poll showed both races were within 10 percentage points, Cook ahead in the 2nd District, Orton ahead in the 3rd.
