The Utah Film & Video Center presents "Quiet Mind," a 23-minute documentary on Buddhist monks in Utah by Carla Woodmansee, on Friday, Oct. 25.
"Quiet Mind" explores the cultural rituals and the lifestyles of the Buddhist monks at Wat Dhammagunaram in Layton. It also examines the cultural heritage of the Thai people and provides an historical account of the ways people adapt to their culture.Woodmansee, an independent filmmaker, has worked in the film and video industry since 1978. She is past chairwoman of the Ogden City Arts Council and also teaches cinema classes at Weber State University.
In addition to the screening, the program, which will be held in the Salt Lake Art Center's Creer Auditorium, will include dancing by Thai performers in traditional costumes and chanting, as well as a reception that follows.
