Helen Virginia Brown Matthews, 76, of Payson, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1996 of complications of a cerebral hemorrhage.

She was born January 12, 1920 in Almy, Uintah County, Wyoming a L daughter of Lyman and Eliza Morris Brown. She graduated from Evanston, Wyoming High L School and was self-employed in Evanston. After moving to Utah, she worked for Nature's Sunshine and Skaggs Alpha Beta. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as leader and teacher in many organizations. She served two missions: California, San Bernardino and Missouri, Independence. She loved classic cars and music and was gifted on the piano, organ, and accordion. She did all types of home repair; cleaning, carpentry, masonry, upholstery, and was a gifted seamstress.Her many years of journal entries reflect her love of the gospel, family, scripture study, temple and missionary work. She was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker, and missionary, who will be missed by all.

Survivors include four daughters and two sons: Terry Lou and Richard Simmons, and Linda Lee Matthews, all of Payson; Robert James and Lois Matthews, Layton; Byron Kim and Vicky Matthews, Roy; Helen Loreen and Ron Brummett, Boise, Idaho; Sallie Janae and Mike Moran, of Orem; 24 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; preceded in death by a granddaughter, Yvette Adele Matthews, and two sisters: Sadie Morris and Harriet Lauretta Brown.

Services will be Monday, October 28, 1996, 1 p.m., in the Gevena Heights First Ward Chapel, 590 North 900 West, Orem. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Pay-H son, Sunday, 6-8 p.m. or at the church Monday, 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Murray City Cemetery.
