Three new musicals are being prepped for potential New York runs.

"Betting on Bertie," based on P.G. Wodehouse's Jeeves and Wooster stories, had a recent reading at the Kaufman Theater by native Utah actor Keene Curtis.There is a reading on Nov. 7, at the Vineyard Theater of "The Life," directed by Michael Blakemore. It has a book by Ira Gasman, Cy Coleman and David Newman, music by Coleman and lyrics by Gasman. Coleman was composer of "Sweet Charity" and "City of Angels."

And on Nov. 8, workshops begin on "Comfortable Shoes," a musical by Clint Holmes, which got a favorable reception at the Paper Mill Playhouse last spring. Martin Richards, a producer of both "The Life" and "Comfortable Shoes," said Holmes' piece would travel to Hartford Stage for a five-week run beginning Nov. 25. - Peter Marks
