Lindsey Hunter scored 24 points Friday night and Stacey Augmon had 15 as the Detroit Pistons defeated the Orlando Magic 81-78 in an NBA exhibition game.

Brian Shaw's 3-pointer cut Detroit's lead to 79-76 with 10.9 seconds remaining, but Hunter responded with two free throws.

Heat 87, Hawks 81

At Atlanta, Isaac Austin scored 20 points to lead Miami to its fourth straight win of the preseason. Christian Laettner and Steve Smith led Atlanta with 17 each.

Bullets 88, Hornets 75

At Charlotte, N.C., Calbert Cheaney scored 21 points and the Washington Bullets at one point built a 31-point lead. Charlotte, which shot 33 percent, got 21 points from Glen Rice.

Timberwolves 116, Celtics 115

At Worcester, Mass., Kevin Garnett scored 25 points and Chris Carr 21 as Minnesota won its fourth in five games. The Celtics, who were led by Dino Radja's 22 points, had a two-game winning streak snapped.

Knicks 79, Rockets 75

At Houston, Allan Houston scored 17 points as the New York Knicks beat the Houston Rockets 79-75 in a game marred by two first-quarter fights and a power failure.

Houston's Charles Barkley and New York's Charles Oakley went at it just 2:54 into the game and were tossed. Then Kevin Willis of the Rockets and Knicks center Patrick Ewing were thrown out at the 7:35 mark after a scuffle.

SuperSonics 99, Lakers 94

At Boise, Shawn Kemp had 30 points and nine rebounds to carry the Seattle SuperSonics, while Detlef Schrempf added 21 points and 11 rebounds.

At Portland, Ore., Aaron McKie came off the bench to score eight of his 14 points early in the fourth quarter to lead Portland. The Grizzlies were led by rookie Shareef Abdur-Rahim's 19 points and seven rebounds.

Nuggets 113, Clippers 84

At Los Angeles, LaPhonso Ellis scored 22 points and the Denver Nuggets shot 64 percent from the field.
