Norway's new prime minister took office Friday, naming Cabinet members who include a diplomat who helped forge the Israeli-Palestinian peace accord and a best-selling detective novelist.

Prime Minister Thorbjoern Jagland - the 46-year-old former leftist who replaced Gro Harlem Brundtland - said his Cabinet balances experience with youthful energy and fresh ideas. Brundtland resigned Wednesday, more than 15 years after forming her first government.
