They say cocaine can be a $500-a-day habit in its extreme. Other types of drugs, pornography and junk food can also be expensive. But Merrill Cook, with his $800-a-day self-promotion habit, takes the cake. That is the total I heard on the radio today. Eleven years, $3 million. Talk about an addiction.

The man needs help, not votes. Wouldn't electing him, an obvious publicity junkie, to the 2nd Congressional District be like giving a junk-food addict his own personal key to the pantry? But seriously, we need a representative who is more interested in solving problems than in headlines and radio talk shows. Ross Anderson's history of community service and involvement is even longer than Cook's history of self- promotion. For that reason, I'm turning down Cook's generous offer, and I'm giving Anderson my vote for free.
