A group in California called Sound Feelings is offering wallet-size folding cards that people can carry in their pockets or purses in case of an emergency.
The small cards contain space for four emergency contact names and numbers, as well as separate sections for medical information such as allergies, blood type, prescription drugs, doctors and any chronic diseases. The paper cards have a bright red medical logo on the front that clearly identifies them to emergency personnel as Emergency Contact Cards. They are about 3 by 2 inches and fit into a wallet. They are not laminated, but can be easily duplicated if necessary.
To obtain details about the cards, call (818) 757-0600. Or to order cards, write Sound Feelings, 7616 Lindley Ave., Reseda, CA 91335.
As the makers of the emergency contact cards point out, drivers' licenses or other customary forms of identification usually don't have space for a doctor's phone number, let alone the number of a spouse or close friend. By the time a paramedic or other emergency worker locates someone's physician or next-of-kin, precious time may have been lost.
