Amateur writers, story tellers and anyone who has fond memories of a Christmas past are encouraged to enter the Deseret News' annual "Christmas I Remember Best" contest.
For several decades original Christmas stories and remembrances have been solicited and published by the Deseret News. Based on the inquiries received through the year, the contest remains as popular as ever. The stories should be original but not just about poignant and sentimental subjects. They can also be humorous and should cover the entire gamut of Christmas emotions and experiences.
Entries should be legible, ideally produced on a computer with a laser printer and from 800 to 1,000 words, although handwritten submissions will be accepted. The author's name, address and phone number must accompany each entry, limited to one per writer.
Entries cannot be returned unless accompanied by a self-addressed and stamped envelope large enough to ac-com-modate the entry.
Six to seven winners will be published the week prior to December 25. They will be originally illustrated by the Deseret News art department and winners will also receive $50 from the Deseret News.
The deadline for submission is Friday, Nov. 29. Address entries to "Christmas Best," Deseret News, P.O. Box 1257, Salt Lake City, UT 84110. Deliver submissions to 135 Regent St. For more information, call the Deseret News community relations department at 237-2135.
