A judge declined Friday to rule on the expulsion of an honor student who carried a Swiss Army knife to school to scrape resin from her violin strings.
The parents of 15-year-old Jenna Fribley sued the school district, saying her expulsion for the rest of the semester would affect her grades, prevent her from taking the Scholastic Achievement Test and harm her chances of winning a college scholarship. But Superior Court Judge John Price said the matter was not in his jurisdiction and Fribley will have to appeal to the district, which clearly spells out the consequences of carrying knives in school.
Fribley was suspended from Pike High School for 10 days on Oct. 3. School officials later decided to expel her until next semester, which begins in January.
