Many Utah residents are offended and upset, and for good reason, over Clinton's recent land grab. There was little or no dialogue concerning the issue.

Much the same is occurring here in Salt Lake City. The UTA board members have taken upon themselves to force light rail down our throats in spite of a clear rejection of the vote for funding light rail. Obviously, the opinion of the UTA board is more binding than the negative outcome of the vote. Now, to worsen matters, the plan is to destroy Main Street with ugly train rails that were once removed from the city. The very least that should be done is to route the tracks west of Main Street, using shuttles to carry passengers to the city center. Then we could avoid desecration of Main Street.

Kudos to Keith Christensen of the Salt Lake City Council for questioning the appropriateness of the Main Street plan. Certainly light rail isn't the only answer to our traffic problem.

Salt Lake City is unique with its clean, broad streets; let it remain as it is. It is not too late for a more-reasonable solution.
