The Oct. 6 debate between the two candidates for president was but another of Clinton's shams. It was refreshing, at least, that Clinton said on TV he wasn't taking all the credit for the good things accomplished this past four years.

For whatever reason, Bob Dole allowed Clinton to gloss over a shameful record concerning gays in the military, vetoing late-term abortion laws, misusing political power, politicizing nearly everything and telling endless lies to the American people.President Clinton, when his own party was in power, did nothing about balancing the budget or welfare reform. It took the freshmen Republicans in 1994 to get things started.

The problem with the debate was that Dole was too civil, too much a gentleman to call a spade a spade.
