Total enrollment at Utah State University increased by 5 percent over last fall, climbing to 20,808 students.
The increase came largely from more students taking extension courses offered on the Logan campus and at USU's Uintah Basin Branch Campus in Roosevelt. There was also a slight increase in students at the Southeastern Utah Center for Continuing Education in Moab."Obviously, USU's efforts to make university courses available to people throughout Utah are finding solid success," said USU President George Emert.
The higher enrollment continues a trend of the past several years of increased numbers of women students. Currently, 53.5 percent of the USU student body are women.
Graduate student enrollment makes up 20 percent of the total enrollment in 1996 vs. 18 percent last year. Utah residents make up 87 percent of the student body, vs. 86 percent last year. The university did experience a slight drop in minority student enrollment and in students from outside the United States.
