A. Clair Thomson, 81, died October 27, 1996, of causes relating to congestive heart failure and diabetes.

Clair was born in Ephraim, Utah, on May 16, 1915, to Clara Bohman and A. Wells Thomson. He married Opal Chapman on December 22, 1937, in the Logan LDS Temple.Clair was an educator all of his life and loved teaching. He taught high school industrial arts in Logan, Gunnison and Spanish Fork, Utah, before joining the staff at the Salt Lake Area Vocational School (now Salt Lake Community College). He was the evening school supervisor and was instrumental in planning the administration building and the automotive and metal trades buildings on the Redwood Road Campus. He was the Dean of the Automotive and Metals Divisions. He also taught math there. He retired in 1980.

He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in various callings sharing his teaching ability and love of the gospel with others. He spent seven years working in the Scottish extraction program with his wife.

He is survived by his wife, Opal; and their three children, Kenneth C. (Edda May) Thomson, Springfield, Mo,; Cheryl T. (Ralph) Smith, and Mark A. (Cyndi) Thomson, both of Salt Lake City. Also survived by a brother, Calvin W. (Joyce) Thomson, Saratoga, Calif.; and sisters, Maurine (David) Scott, and Carolyn (Lee) Crabb, both of Orem, Utah. He has 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Clair was loved and respect by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 1996, at 12 noon at the LDS 27th East Ward, 1300 East Fairfax Road, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may call Tuesday evening, October 29, at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, from 6 to 8 p.m., and at the ward on Wednesday, 11 to 11:45 a.m. He will be buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
