Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Jerry Finley Hill, returned home to our Father-in-Heaven on October 27, 1996.
He died of a heart attack after valiantly struggling with the disabling effects of a stroke for over five years. We are proud of him and will miss him greatly. He was born in Nampa, Idaho, on February 17, 1933, to Matthew Wallace Hill and Virginia Varnon Finley Hill. He married Barbara Ann Shurtliff on August 8, 1962, in Salt Lake City. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on April 27, 1963.
Jerry's most precious possessions were his wife, family, and especially his three grandchildren. He was always supportive of his family in their endeavors and was totally devoted to their happiness. He was a soft-spoken man of great integrity and strength.
Jerry began his professional career as a bookkeeper for First Security Bank in Nampa, Idaho. He later became a commissioned National Bank Examiner for the U.S. Treasury Department and held this position for five years. He then became a credit examiner for the Idaho First National Bank and subsequently returned to Salt Lake City and to First Security Corporation as a credit examiner. He was with First Security for 25 years and attained the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Auditor, a position he held until his disabling stroke in 1991.
Jerry was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many ward and stake positions.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his children, Holly H. Peterson (Steve), Jeffrey S. Hill (Annie), Heidi H. Ellis (Gary), Heather A. Hill (serving in the Finland-Helsinki Mission), Jason S. Hill, Joseph S. Hill (serving in the Germany-Berlin Mission), and Jonathan S.
