During its Oct. 15 meeting, the City Council:

- Denied a request to amend the transportation element of the city's general plan to realign a portion of 300 East between 11800 South and 12300 South. Area property owners opposed the proposal.

- Agreed to spend up to $1,000 of city funds on a community Halloween party to be organized by the Chamber of Com-merce.

- Approved, with several conditions, the final plat for South Willow Creek Village, a 126-unit town home development on 11 acres.

- Approved bylaws and recognized the creation of the Pioneer Neighborhood Association. The group joins the Willow and Corner Canyon neighborhood associations as the first three of four community councils to be formed in the city. Each of the association boards will consist of seven to 12 property owners or residents. The associations will serve in an advisory capacity to the Planning Commission and City Council, and provide a first avenue for developers to approach community members with project plans.

Sandy

During its Oct. 15 meeting, the City Council:

- Amended the land development code, redefining the central business district and the permitted land uses in commercial zones to bring the language of the ordinance into closer compliance with the city's general plan.

- Changed the zoning of approximately 68 acres between the Jordan Canal west of State Street east to the railroad tracks and from 9400 South to 9600 South, from the industrial and regional commercial districts to the central business district.

Midvale

During its Oct. 8 meeting, the City Council:

- Approved an ordinance making it illegal to park commercial semitrailer trucks and trailers on public streets except while loading or unloading. The law was aimed at truck drivers who unhitch trailers and leave them unattended on city streets.

During its Sept. 24 meeting, the City Council:

- Passed a resolution reaffirming its opposition to the Utah Transit Authority's plan to build a light-rail maintenance facility on a 22-acre site at about 8400 S. State. City leaders would rather have revenue-generating commercial development on the site and have suggested UTA build its maintenance facility two miles west on the Midvale slag site.

The resolution proposes that UTA and city officials tour both sites together, and proposes that UTA conduct a feasibility study of the alternate site.

- Agreed to accept Utah Power customers' bill payments at City Hall.

- Approved acceptance of $50,000 from Salt Lake County as reimbursement for the renovation of Alexander Dahl Stadium.

West Valley City
